Bonn · In the documentary "Leaving Neverland" new accusations against the late pop singer Michael Jackson are made. However, the plans for the upcoming exhibition about the "King of Pop" in Bonn will not change.
Despite new allegations of abuse, the Bundeskunsthalle is sticking to its planned Michael Jackson exhibition. The show does not deal with the life of the pop star, but with his influence on contemporary visual art, the museum announced on Wednesday in Bonn. It was "no homage to the person“ of Jackson.
The current controversial discussion about the film documentary "Leaving Neverland" is being followed intensively. "The accusations it contains are shocking, but the proceedings are not over and have become much more difficult since Michael Jackson's death," the Bundeskunsthalle announced. A distancing from the exhibition was "not given at the present time".
The show includes works by Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, and Paul McCarthy, among others. It starts on March 22 and has already been shown in London and Paris.
In recent days, the television documentary "Leaving Neverland" had made headlines. In it, the two men James Safechuck (40) and Wade Robson (36) tell us that the singer, who died in 2009, abused them as children. The program provoked divided reactions in the USA. After the first part was broadcast, some viewers defended Jackson, others announced that they no longer wanted to listen to his music.
