Orientation prepares volunteers Animal shelter in Bonn seeks helpers

Bonn · For those who don’t have their own pet but would still appreciate the opportunity to care for small animals or take dogs out for a walk, the Bonn animal shelter is looking for help. An introduction day is set for next week.

The Albert Schweizer Bonn animal shelter is looking for volunteers, people who want to come in and pet or handle some of the small animals they have taken in. Small creatures such as rabbits or rats (yes, even rats) are happy to receive some attention. And the regular interaction with humans increases the chances that a home will be found for the animals.

Those who might be interested should naturally enjoy being around animals and also be of legal age. There is an orientation to familiarize them with the animal shelter and the animals. Nicole Joußen of the Bonn animal shelter is pleased about the resonance: "It is always well received, although the number of people who are interested in volunteering varies.”

It isn’t only the small animals that require attention and affection from volunteers, dog-walkers are also needed. Those who want to volunteer as dog-walkers should be able to commit on a regular basis so that the dog can get used to the person taking them out for a walk. The Bonn animal shelter currently has around 70 to 80 dogs to be placed with volunteer dog-walkers.

When it comes to cats, the situation is different. Currently, the shelter has more helpers than are needed to work with the cats. Should this change, it would be announced on their website.

On Wednesday, April 10, there will be an introduction and orientation for those who are interested. It begins at 5pm at the animal shelter: Tierheim Albert Schweitzer, Lambareneweg 2, 53119 Bonn. For more information, please visit the website: Tierheim Albert Schweitzer Bonn
