Festival in the Rheinaue All about the Bonn Balloon Festival

BONN · Numerous hot air balloons will be taking off from the Bonn Rheinaue Park between June 7 and 10. Spectators will have lots to see and there will be fun activities as well.

From June 7 to 10, 2019, the 11th annual balloon festival will take place in Bonn. More than 30 balloon teams from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands are expected to take off from the “Blumenwiese” (meadow) area in the Rheinaue.

The opening is on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. when all of the hot air balloons lift off from the Rheinaue Park at the same time. Varied activities and entertainment will accompany the ballooning, including bungee trampolines, a bicycle course, children's face painting and a balloon flight competition on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. and on Sunday and Monday starting at 12 p.m.

Pilots and passengers will be lifting off every day at around 6:30 pm. In addition, Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning departures are offered from 6:30 a.m. onwards. For those who would like a ride in a hot air balloon, some spots are still available and can be booked online. Spectators are welcome on all days. The balloon launches are subject to change as thunderstorms may occur on Whitsun weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday evening the traditional balloon glow takes place after the return of the balloons at around 11 p.m. The balloon festival will have something to offer both young and old all throughout the Whitsun weekend.
