The A3 towards Cologne is likely to be closed into the morning between Siebengebirge/Königswinter and the Bonn/Siegburg junction. According to motorway police, there was an accident involving two lorries and a car at around 5am. The car driver was fatally injured and died at the scene of the accident. The two lorry drivers suffered minor injuries.
According to police, the car driver was on the A3 in the morning when he suddenly drove into the lorry travelling in front of him at high speed. The roof of the car collapsed. The vehicle skidded and stopped in the middle of the carriageway. It was then hit by another lorry causing the car to be crushed against the central crash barrier.
The recording of the accident is now completed. Björn Haupt, press spokesman for the Bad Honnef voluntary fire brigade, said the salvage process had started. Traffic is backed up for several kilometres. Police are currently assuming the A3 will remain closed until at least 11am. The bypass roads are also currently closed.
