Karneval rowdies 70 hooligans banned from Karneval

Bonn · As part of their security measures, police have banned 70 known offenders from all Karneval festivities. More police will be on duty than ever.

Police have banned 70 hooligans and repeat offenders from all Karneval events and celebrations in Bonn, Beuel, Bad Godesberg and Bornheim. According to police officials, some of these persons already attracted their attention last year. Those who ignore the ban will be fined and taken into police custody.

Police will be implementing measures which were agreed to at a security conference. They will have more officers on patrol than they have ever had; only in rare cases will police have off during this time. All police officers will be working in Bonn and the region to provide security and safety. Additional officers from Bochum and Mönchengladbach will support security measures at train stations, public transport stops and in Bonn inner city.

Senior police superintendent, Helmut Pfau said, “We will deal swiftly and consequently with any drunken troublemakers, hooligans or criminals.” Police say they have already coordinated with the Prosecutor’s office and the District Court to ensure accelerated processing of offenders. In addition to these measures, police say they have been taking preventative action by working together with the city of Bonn and Karneval officials to create awareness in refugee centers about customs and etiquette surrounding Karneval.

A citizen’s hotline has also been established. From Thursday, Feb. 4 (Weiberfastnacht), those in need of help or advice can call 0228-153030. In case of emergency, citizens should dial 110.
