Vandalism 420 cars set on fire in NRW

DÜSSELDORF · Setting cars afire is an act of vandalism that has been on the increase in NRW. 420 cars were set on fire in the first half of 2016.

In the first half of 2016, already 420 cars in North Rhine Westphalia (NRW) had been set on fire by vandals. This is a 19 percent increase in comparison to statistics from the previous year. The figures were reported by NRW Interior Minister Ralf Jäger on Monday.

In the entire year of 2015, 704 cars had been set afire. Ten years ago, this type of vandalism was not so well-known. In 2006, 93 cars had been set on fire in NRW throughout the whole year.

Most of the cars set on fire in the first half of 2016 were in Cologne (45). In Bonn and Rhine-Sieg, the number went down somewhat in the first half of the year with ten cases reported in Bonn (-1) and five cases in Rhine-Sieg-County (-6).
