The meeting of the citizens' committee in Bonn on Tuesday evening was accompanied by about 250 demonstrators. Three organizations want to achieve the proclamation of a climate emergency. They received great approval in the citizens' committee. This many visitors rarely find their way to the Council Hall in Bonn: on Tuesday evening around 250 spectators came to the Citizens' Committee to confirm the importance of a citizens' application submitted there by the organisations Fridays for Future, Klimawache and Parents for Future. The declared aim is for the Bonn City Council to declare a climate emergency.

In the Citizens' Committee they were heard for their request. The local politicians unanimously recommended that the city council approve the proposal. As Luca Samlidis of Fridays for Future told the GA after the meeting, the proclamation, which several cities had already joined, was a rather symbolic but important act. "But we want to achieve more than just lip service and puns".

He announced that the movements involved would in future put climate policy within the city of Bonn to the test. In the expansion of local public transport, the cycle path infrastructure and the use of energy, we will take a very close look at where money is being spent sensibly. The 19-year-old Samlidis was pleased with the broad support of the committee members, only one of whom abstained.

Before the debate, Luisa Engqvist spoke to the demonstrators and the political representatives: "In the name of reason, I ask you to listen to the scientists and call out the climate crisis.“ Nils von Delft of the Climate Watch also stressed: "The climate crisis that is approaching us is dangerous - we are all making this clear to the politicians and calling for concrete countermeasures to be taken in Bonn as well".
