In the Telekom Dome 17,400 carnival fans expected for “Bonn steht Kopp”

Bonn · The "Bonn steht Kopp" carnival event at the Telekom Dome is so popular that another date has been added. But because the artists are booked two years in advance, the added show will feature other acts. A shuttle service has been set up to prevent traffic chaos on the weekend.

This weekend, it will be that time again: Thousands of “Jecke” (carnival revelers) will pilgrimage to the Telekom Dome to celebrate with the stars of the carnival scene at "Bonn steht Kopp"(this can be roughly translated into "Bonn gets crazy"). Because the demand is so great, an additional show has been added on Friday.

At the added Friday event, there will be Querbeat, Brings and Klüngelköpp on stage. "Normally we try to have the same artists performing on all days, but since we added Friday to the schedule at short notice, it was difficult to have the same show as on Saturday and Sunday," says Heike Waldmann, who is hosting the event along with with Wolfgang Pütz. Bands are booked two years in advance, and they already had commitments for Friday. So Bläck Fööss and the Höhner will only perform on Saturday and Sunday. "Next year, the line-up will be the same on all days", says Waldmann.

The different show line-ups even had a positive effect, as some visitors used it to decide which day they would visit "Bonn steht Kopp". Altogether, the organizers expect more than 17,400 carnival enthusiasts on the three days.

As with all events taking place in the Telekom Dome, traffic jams are to be expected again this weekend in that area. "We would like to point out that parking spaces around the Telekom Dome are very limited and visitors should travel by bus and rail," said Waldmann. The venue has been offering its own shuttle service from the very beginning. "This shuttle service takes visitors from Bonn's main train station to the Telekom Dome," explains Waldmann. The shuttle is provided by buses of the Bonn public utility company Stadtwerke - but it does not travel on the normal route, rather on the autobahn. Many visitors are not familiar with this service, however. Although the admission ticket says that it is also valid as a ticket for buses and trains in the area of the Rhein-Sieg Transport Authority, it does not say that there is also a separate shuttle service.

"This is because the shuttle service is a matter of negotiation every year," explains Heike Waldmann. The tickets for next year are usually sold directly after the end of "Bonn steht Kopp", but at this time the shuttle service has not yet been decided. "I do not want to print something on the ticket that can't be used a year later."

A video on the event website under the heading "Tips and Rules" therefore refers to the shuttle service. "Unfortunately, however, we do not reach all visitors with the video, although we do post it everywhere to make it known," explains the organizer. A team of traffic guides will also be on duty around the Telekom Dome on all three days of the event. "This is especially important on Friday, because many retailers in the area are still open on that day - there shouldn't be any problems," says Waldmann.

The dates for next year's "Bonn steht Kopp" have already been determined: On the weekend of Friday, February 5 to Sunday, February 7, the Telekom Dome carnival event will be celebrated. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, February 3, 2020.
