Water rescue statistics 14 people have drowned in the Rhine so far this year

Koblenz · Water levels are currently low in the Rhine and many people are tempted to go for a swim to cool off in the hot weather. But statistics record that there have been 14 drownings already this year.

According to statistics from the Deutschen Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft (DLRG), which is the German water rescue authorities, 14 persons have drowned in the Rhine River in the first seven months of this year.

In the entire previous year, there were 22 people who drowned in the Rhine, according to DLRG information released on Tuesday. In the Rhineland-Palatinate section of the Rhine, on person died in the past seven months, according to the DLRG. Last year, there were three deaths.

According to police, another person was found dead at the Rhine in Boppard on Saturday, adding to the DLRG statistics.
