Weather delay 11th balloon festival in Bonn to begin on Saturday

BONN.  · The eleventh Bonn Balloon Festival will now begin on Saturday afternoon on the “Blumenwiese” area in Bonn's Rheinaue. The scheduled start on Friday had to be cancelled due to the weather.

Balloonists will enjoy a great view of Bonn and surroundings from high up in the sky on the Whitsun weekend - just as our photographer did on a test run on Wednesday last week. The hot air balloons started in the Rheinaue and a moderate southeast wind sent the balloonists towards the Siegaue. They crossed over the Rhine in the vicinity of the Post Tower. Then the test run continued via Beuel to a precise landing on the Siegaue dike.

At the planned official opening of the eleventh balloon festival on Friday, however, the weather put a damper on the balloonists. The first launch of the hot-air balloons is now planned for Saturday evening on the “Blumenwiese” area of the Rheinaue Park in Bonn. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday the hot air balloons will lift off at 7 pm. On Saturday and Sunday the balloon glow will be another attraction, beginning at around 10:30 pm.

Rounding out the hot air balloon festival, there will be fun things to do for families. Varied activities and entertainment will accompany the ballooning, including bungee trampolines, a bicycle course, children's face painting and a balloon flight competition on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. and on Sunday and Monday starting at 12 p.m.
