Concert in summer 2020 : Lionel Richie is coming to Bonn as part of KunstRasen

The programme of the KunstRasen concerts 2020 has an additional highlight: Lionel Richie, who has sold more than 100 million records as an individual artist, is coming to the Rheinaue in Bonn. Advance sales will start on Friday.

First Sting, and now another world star will be in Bonn next year for the KunstRasen: on Friday, June 26, 2020, Lionel Richie will give a guest performance. The sales of advance tickets starts today, Friday, 8 November, at 10:00 at ga-bonn.de/tickets. Advance booking also begins today for Helge Schneider, who will finally come back to Bonn on August 6, 2020.

“I saw Lionel Richie at the Pinkpop Festival two years ago and was thrilled by his performance”, says concert promoter Ernst-Ludwig Hartz. “The artist is often laughed at as a singer of smoochy music, but Lionel Richie is a very strong singer and a born entertainer. He is touring with a top band. Two years ago, there was a real party atmosphere in the square.” Hits with the Commodores such as “Easy”, “Brick House”, “Fire” and “Lady (You Bring Me Up)” have never been forgotten. “In The Netherlands, he also performed 'Endless Love', the duet he once recorded with Diana Ross, and the audience effortlessly took over the female vocals. I think the Bonn audience can look forward to a great performance”, says Hartz.

Lionel Richie, who appeared on the Museums mile in Bonn in 2001 and 2004 and most recently in the Lanxess Arena in 2015, was co-founder of the successful soul and R&B group, The Commodores. After the band broke up, Lionel Richie started his equally successful solo career. His first hit “Endless Love” shot straight to number 1 in the single charts. He received an Oscar for “Say You, Say Me” from the film “White Nights”. With around 100 million records sold worldwide, Lionel Richie is one of the most successful solo artists of all time.

Lionel Richie has a stage career that has lasted for more than 50 years

The man from Tuskegee, Alabama, is a real pro and also a real phenomenon. His career has lasted more than 50 years, but time seems to have passed him by. With his slim figure and smooth facial features, the 70-year-old looks as if he has discovered the fountain of youth.

Why are the announcements of the appearing stars so piecemeal? “Artists and their agents are extremely cautious and the negotiations are often difficult, because there are so many details involved. In addition, we are in competition with other locations”, says Hartz. “We announce the artists as soon as we have reached a contractual agreement. Then ticket sales can also start. No parties are interested in public speculation. For the Hofgarten concerts I am currently in close negotiations with another great artist. As soon as the signatures have been made, I will announce the names – and not a moment before."
