In September, State Minister Ina Scharrenbach gave the green light for the search for North Rhine-Westphalia's most beautiful town hall. In the first phase of the competition, Bonn submitted its town hall as an entry for the social media competition. About one month before the start of the voting phase, the city's competition entry video has now been made public.

In the video, Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan presents Bonn's Old Town Hall and emphasizes its historical significance. Especially during the time when the federal government was located in Bonn, it was "the town hall par excellence", says Sridharan. The Lord Mayor also emphasizes the visits of important political and social figures such as John F. Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth and Pope John Paul.

Starting at the end of February, Bonn's citizens will be able to vote for their town hall on the website of the state ministry as the most beautiful of a total of 70 town halls in NRW. "Of course we hope that many people will consider Bonn's town hall the most beautiful in NRW and that we will end up with the best possible ranking", says spokeswoman Monika Hörig.

With this competition, the state ministry wants to put the town hall in the spotlight as a local political institution and at the same time draw attention to the historical and cultural heritage of the state. Volunteer work in local politics is also to be recognized. The winning town hall will be honored on March 28 at the Ministry's Home Congress.
