Police arrest man Break-in attempt thwarted at Bonn Christmas Market
Bonn · Once again, criminals were targeting the stalls of the Bonn Christmas Market, this time late Wednesday night. Unlike at the end of November when the burglary was successful, this time it failed. Bonn police are investigating and asking the public for help.
Bonn police took a 26-year-old man into temporary custody late Wednesday night. Together with another perpetrator who the police are still looking for, he is accused of attempting to break into a booth at the Bonn Christmas Market.
According to a police report, security services were observing the suspects at the Christmas market at around fifteen minutes after midnight as they were tampering with the door of a stall near Poststrasse. The security workers approached the men and one of them fled along Poststrasse towards Münsterstrasse. The second suspect, the 26-year-old man, was detained by the security service until police arrived. Police officers took the man into temporary custody. The accused is already known to police for street crimes and narcotics violations.
According to the information gathered so far, the two suspects had tried to forcefully open the door of the booth. At the end of November, culprits broke into seven stalls at the Christmas market in Bonn's city center, stealing light bulbs worth around 2,000 euros. This time around, the break-in attempt was thwarted.
The police are investigating the incident and it is still unclear whether there is a connection between the crime in November and the latest attempt. The second suspect is said to be about 1.85 meters tall, with short blonde hair, and was wearing blue jeans and a grey hooded sweater at the time of the crime.
