The federal city of Bonn occupies the list of top destinations in a worldwide comparison. In particular, the American travel publisher Frommer's cites the diverse programme on offer on the occasion of Ludwig van Beethoven's 250th birthday, the completely redesigned Beethoven House and the permanent Beethoven Tour in Bonn and the region as reasons for the accolade.

In October, the “Lonely Planet” travel guide also chose Bonn as a top travel destination. Experts from the Australian publisher ranked the former German capital fifth in an international comparison.

After Bonn's very high ranking yet again, Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan announced on Thursday: “We are very pleased that Bonn has once again been chosen as one of the top travel destinations.”

Ralf Birkner, the commercial director of the Beethoven Jubiläums GmbH, said: “I am delighted that our joint efforts to market Beethoven's anniversary in 2020 internationally as a special travel occasion are paying off. We are already experiencing particularly intense interest – Beethoven’s anniversary is rapidly approaching”. The Beethoven Anniversary company GmbH, together with the German National Tourist Board, NRW Tourism and Tourism & Congress GmbH, have been promoting Bonn as an attractive travel destination for Beethoven's anniversary for years.
