Münsterplatz: Hundreds of tractors expected at farmers demo in Bonn

Bonn. Next Tuesday there will be a meeting on the Münsterplatz. Up to 10,000 farmers are expected there, of whom hundreds want to drive their tractors to Bonn. Because of this, traffic disruptions must be expected.

After the student movement "Fridays for Future" has brought the topic of climate protection to the attention of the general public with its demonstrations, farmers now apparently want to vent their anger about stricter environmental regulations and tighter eligibility criteria with a similar protest movement. The organisers have registered 8,000 to 10,000 participants for the central Germany-wide rally next Tuesday at Münsterplatz in Bonn for the period from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.. Already starting from the early morning hours, substantial traffic obstructions can be expected on all passage roads in the city area. Allegedly 700 farmers want to drive their tractors to Bonn. Convoys from the Lower Rhine, Emsland or Bad Kreuznach have been announced. The vehicles will all be parked on the grassland of the Bonn farmer Marcus Vianden in Schwarzrheindorf north of the north bridge.

Düsseldorf Airport affected: Warning strike causes flight cancellations in Cologne

Cologne. Flight attendants of Lufthansa subsidiaries Eurowings, Germanwings, Lufthansa Cityline and Sunexpress are on strike since Sunday morning. This also has an impact on air traffic at Cologne/Bonn Airport and in Düsseldorf.

The announced warning strike of the Ufo cabin union at North Rhine-Westphalian airports began on Sunday morning. A spokesman for the airport said early on Sunday morning that four connections of the airline Eurowings had been cancelled at Düsseldorf airport. "There will certainly be more to come.“

240 Eurowings flights are planned every day in Düsseldorf. A spokesperson said that some connections at Cologne-Bonn airport had already been cancelled. However it has been quiet at the airport, because the passengers had informed themselves in good time.

The cabin union Ufo has extended the warning strike of the flight attendants of the Lufthansa subsidiaries Eurowings, Germanwings, Lufthansa Cityline and Sunexpress at several German airports from originally 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. until midnight.

SPD wants ticket-free public transport in the Rhein-Sieg district

Rhein-Sieg district. The SPD district parliamentary group of the Rhein-Sieg district sees the 365 euro ticket as only an "important intermediate step". In the long run, they are striving for ticket-free local transport.

At the moment, the reports on the 365-Euro ticket in local transport are coming in daily. This year, the Federal Government is supporting five model cities, including the Federal City of Bonn, which are offering a one-year ticket for one Euro a day. The response in Bonn has been rather restrained - above all because commuters to or from the Rhein-Sieg district cannot take advantage of this offer: In a possible second round, Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis want to apply together.

Against the military offensive: Thousands of Kurdish demos in German cities

Cologne. On Saturday, thousands of people in Cologne protested in several German cities against the Turkish military offensive in Northern Syria. The demonstrations were largely peaceful. In Cologne, for example, no escalation was feared.

In Stuttgart, however, according to police, there were clashes between participants of the demonstration and the police. One policeman was injured according to the current reports. On October 9, Turkey had begun a campaign with the allied Syrian rebels against the Kurdish militia YPG in northern Syria. Turkey regards the YPG as a terrorist organization. In Europe, the offensive was met with strong criticism. Foreign policy-makers saw it as "military aggression and violation of international law".

The feared escalation of a pro-Kurdish rally in Cologne failed to materialise. The police announced in the early evening that the demonstration through the city centre had been largely undisturbed. According to this, more than 10,0000 participants attended - significantly less than expected. The evening before, the Cologne police had warned that several thousand violent demonstrators were expected to march in Cologne coming from all over Europe. Turkish nationalists could mingle and provoke the Kurds.
