Working under pressure These pools are not open yet - despite the heat wave
Bonn · Three outdoor pools remain closed - they are not ready for the season yet. The Melbbad, the Römerbad and the Rüngsi will only open on Corpus Christi (next Thursday).
All signs are indicating it’s summer, temperatures of up to 32 degrees in Bonn will send many people to the outdoor pools this weekend. But not all have opened for this season. The Melbbad, the Römerbad and the Rüngsdorf outdoor pool will only open next week, on Thursday, the feast of Corpus Christi - a long weekend in most companies and schools.
Open are the Hardtbergbad (Hardthöhe), the Ennertbad (Pützchen) and the outdoor pool in Friesdorf. Whit Monday those pools registered 1,500 guests already, 500 of those in the „Friesi“ alone.
An earlier opening of the three still closed pools is not possible, the city’s press office said when contacted for a statement by the GA. Currently the cleaning of all the facilities is still underway. In the Römerbad there are still jobs on the tiles to be done.
Before every start of the season, the technical installations all get checked, the pools themselves sometimes need to be newly sealed and the paths have to be repaired and the furniture needs updating. „The pools are filled already“ said Stefanie Zießnitz from the press office. But finale probes need to be awaited and the water needs to be checked if it is germ-free.
Another reason for the fixed opening date: Seasonal workers only get employed from a certain date. „Many temporary staff have a contract from June 1, because they can legally only be employed for a maximum of 70 days if they are gainfully employed. But the outdoor pool season runs until September“, says Zießnitz. The administration thus only partially obeys a request by the city council - at the end of January the politicians decided that all outdoor pools should be opened by May 15 if the weather permits it.
From Thursday next week all pools are open until September 2, 2018.
These pools are already opened:
- Hardtbergbad, Ennertbad and Freibad Friesdorf: Monday - Friday 6.30 - 8pm, weekends and national days 11am - 8pm
- Freibad at the Oktopus in Siegburg: in the mornings the in- and outdoor pools are open until 12noon, weather depending one might be closed.
- Freibad Sankt Augustin: Monday 10am - 8pm, Tuesday - Friday 9am - 8pm, weekend and national days 10am - 7pm
- Freibad Rheinbach: daily 10am - 8pm.Lemmerzfreibad Königswinter: May and June daily 10am-7pm, July and August weekdays until 8pm
- Freibad Insel Grafenwerth in Bad Honnef: weekdays 7am - 8pm, weekends 10am - 8pm
- Hallenfreizeitbad Bornheim: In June on weekdays weather depending, but open all weekends, from July it opens daily.
- Freizeitbad Remagen: Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am - 8pm, Tuesday and Thursday 7am - 8pm and on weekdays 9am - 7pm
- Twin Freizeitbad in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler: Monday - Friday 9am - 9pm, weekends and national days 9am - 7pm
