Pützchens Markt Seven rides make their debut at the funfair

Beuel · The Pützchens Markt funfair opens in 52 days with plenty of new rides as well as some old favourites.

The anticipation is mounting among all funfair fans. In less than two months, the 651st Pützchens Markt will start (7 to 11 September). Even in the year after the big jubilee, the traditional fair in Beuel will again be offering fast-paced rides and popular family attractions. Seven major attractions will be at the funfair, traditionally organised by the city of Bonn, for the first time. The highlight of these new rides is the “Goldmine Tower” freefall tower, which hurtles its passengers earthwards at up to 140 kilometres per hour from a height of 80 metres. The ride on “Apollo 13” is also breathtaking. Depending on the rotation of the gondola, accelerations of 0G (weightlessness in space) to up to 5G (the same as a rocket launch) are reached.

The Big Wheel and the Wild Mouse are among the classics

On “Mr Gravity”, the adventurous are spun at up to 100 kilometres per hour on a rotating disc, which also rises to an angle of 90 degrees – including fast changes in direction. In the brand new “Kaleidoskop” funhouse, a magical world of colours and shapes awaits guests behind the steampunk backdrop. Besides the new attractions, there are a host of “repeats” on offer: for example the chain swing ride “The Flyer of Bonn” or the wave swinger “Taumler”. The rollercoaster “Fire and Ice”, the “Konga” swing and the “Hawaii Swing” ride are also back after a few years’ break. Funfair fans also need not miss out on fairground classics such as the “Europa Big Wheel”, the “Wild Mouse”, and the huge swings “Nessy”, “Breakdance” and “Octopussy”.

“Plutenmarkt” and historic rides at the fairground meadow

Two attractions from the jubilee year historic funfair are also at the fairground in Pützchen for the first time: the “Journey into Paradise” rollercoaster and the nostalgic horse carousel “Schleifer’s Carousel”. There will also be the traditional “Plutenmarkt” (clothing market) again, which recalls the original significance of the fair as a trade fair.

There will be a total of around 500 stands on the 80,000 square metre event grounds. There are 23 rides among the 170 stands on the main grounds. Opening times: Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 3am, Sunday from 10am to 1am, Monday from 12 noon to 1am and Tuesday from 12 noon to midnight. The series of events at the Pützchens Markt begins on the opening Friday, 11 September from 1.30pm with the historic festival parade. The official opening in the Bavaria tent follows at 3pm with tapping of the beer barrel by Bonn’s Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan.
