High tech costumes in the Maritim Hotel Science Fiction fans arrive in Bonn for the FedCon event
Bonn · The FedCon draws Science Fiction Fans to Bonn’s Maritim Hotel for the next few days. Most costumes on the first day were very colourful.
For his costume, David says, he needed a bit if High Tech: „I have an air fan in the head mask“, the Berlin man explains. He arrived in a full body racoon suit at the Science Fiction Convention FedCon in the Maritim Hotel in Bonn. He’s representing „Rocket“, the talking furry animal from the „Guardians of the Galaxy“ comics and films. He says he is also wearing a cooling vest underneath. Well, for a good costume, a Cosplayer puts up with a lot.
He arrived together with Tina, who came as „Grandmaster“ from the last „Thor“ movie. “We went to the RPC in Cologne and just stayed in the area.“ Both are members of the Cosplay Dragon Workshop and „DIY nerds“. The colourful Grandmaster coat and the Rocket costume are both hand-made. The two fans are hoping to meet friends and show off their outfits. The Con programme doesn’t interest them very much.
Although it has quite a bit on offer - and includes plenty of celebrities: Jonathan Frakes and Brent Spiner („Star Trek – the next century“) are some of the most famous, but many people also know Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonell from „Battlestar Galactica“. That show is very well represented this year. Even Grace Park came - a rare guest, even on US cons, according to FedCon spokesperson Samantha Hunt. Grace Park and the others were available for Q&A sessions with the audience.
There were workshops, signature and photo sessions, as well as fan movies and plenty of merchandising stalls.
The most important detail: The costumes. Jedi, Avenger heroes, even an alien and many, many more can be seen here. Of course, the „Enterprise“ cannot be missing from this - according to Angelika Staschulats: „I grew up with StarTrek“, says the woman from Duisburg. A year ago she let her daughters talk her into joining the „Startrooper Germany“ cosplayer group - unusual for a nearly 60-year-old. But she loves it - and is experienced when it comes to costumes: „I am a real carnival person.“
