The fire brigade was called out in large numbers to Ellerstraße on Wednesday. A fire broke out in a house in a rear courtyard. The fire brigade said at the scene that one person had died in the fire. There are no further people in the building.
Work by the fire brigade to extinguish the fire is difficult because of the location of the building. “Because of building development, we could only reach the burning building through several rear courtyards. There is also a danger that the fire could still spread to other buildings,” said Martin Haselbauer, spokesperson for the Bonn Fire Brigade.
60 members of the fire brigade are at the scene and Ellerstraße is completely closed to traffic. There is also disruption to traffic in neighbouring streets. The cause of the fire is still unknown. “Police fire investigators will examine this once the fire is extinguished,” said Haselbauer.
The building is a residential house in a rear courtyard with several extensions. Contrary to initial reports, the adjoining kindergarten was not affected by the fire.
