Suspicious man Cologne Cathedral open again following evacuation

COLOGNE · The Cologne Cathedral was evacuated on Friday morning because of a man who appeared suspicious. He had behaved conspicuously and was taken into custody, said a police spokeswoman. It was opened again about an hour later.

The search of the Cologne Cathedral with sniffer dogs has ended. A police spokesperson said on Friday that nothing had been found and that the cathedral would open again in a short time. The cathedral had been evacuated because of a suspicious man.

The approximate 25-year-old man drove onto the square in front of the cathedral with his van. He then entered the Cologne Cathedral several times. This prompted the cathedral security services staff to alert police. The man was taken into custody without any resistance. Orig. text: dpa Translation: Carol Kloeppel
