Climate Conference preparations City allows substitute parking spaces at Rheinaue

Bonn · Preparation work for the World Climate Conference means a tight squeeze for visitors who want to park at the Rheinaue. The city has approved some substitute parking arrangements through August 26.

Since Monday, most of the large parking lot at the Rheinaue on Ludwig-Erhard-Allee has been closed. Because of that, the city will allow parking along Ludwig-Erhard-Allee in the area between Konrad-Adenauer-Bridge (Südbrücke) and the Rheinaue parking lot in both directions. Visitors to the Rheinaue flea market and other events are probably familiar with this parking. It will be allowed until Saturday, August 26, weekdays from 5:30pm until midnight and weekends from 1pm until 8 pm. For the flea market coming up on Saturday as well as the one in October, these rules also apply.

City spokeswoman Monika Hörig confirmed that Dirk Dötsch, who runs the Park Restaurant Rheinaue and organizes the beer garden concerts there, had submitted a parking request to the City of Bonn and it was approved. Those who attend the music events, which are still scheduled through August 26, will be able to find enough places to park in that area.

As reported, work has begun on facilities for the World Climate Conference (COP23), which will be held in Bonn from November 6 - 17. A temporary conference center is being set up on the Blumenwiese in the Rheinaue, and because of this, Charles-de-Gaulle-Straße as well as large parts of the parking lot at Ludwig-Erhard-Allee are closed off.
