Helicopter and lifeboat called Bonn fire brigade rescues person from the Rhine

Bonn · The Bonn fire brigade rescued a person from the Rhine early on Wednesday morning. At the height of the Beethovenhalle, the person had held on to a ship. A helicopter was also used.

Early Wednesday morning, a person floating in the Rhine was reported to the Bonn control centre. According to the caller, the person should be in the area of the ramp below the Beethovenhalle.

The police and the alerted forces of the fire brigade and rescue services were able to limit the place of action to a passenger ship lying at the pier. According to the fire brigade, the person was able to hold on to the bow of the ship under his/her own power.

A short time later, the crew of a multi-purpose boat rescued the person. A police helicopter circling over the city supported the rescue from the air. At a ramp at the side of the river, the person was handed over to the rescue services and transported to a hospital.

There were 25 firefighters from the Bonn Fire and Rescue Service called out. The forces from the Rhein-Sieg district, which were also alerted, were able to cancel the mission after the first response. The rescue operation was completed at 3.40 am. According to the police, the reason why the person was in the Rhine early in the morning has not yet been clarified.
