Several emergency call outs during heatwave Bonn fire brigade rescue baby from locked car

The scorching heat led the number of fire brigade call outs to soar as well yesterday, but with no „extreme cases“, according to spokesperson Martin Haselbauer. In Beuel, a child was locked in a vehicle and twice the fire brigade had to free dogs from cars.

At 10.30am, the emergency teams were called to the Professor-Neu-Allee in Beuel, because a child was locked in a car. However, it appeared to be a technical problem that caused the car’s door to remain shut. The mother had called the fire brigade immediately and has “reacted perfectly“, said Haselbauer.

Twice the helpers had to be called out to rescue animals. In both cases, dogs were locked in in cars. At 12.30pm the fire brigade were about to open a car at the Sigmund-Freud-Straße by force when the car owner arrived in a hurry. The other call out at the Thomas-Mann-Straße did not end this lightly. The fire brigade had to open the boot of a car to free a dog from the heat. Regulatory authority staff took over the case.
