Petersberg shuttle Biergarten opens at Petersberg

Königswinter · It’s perfect weather to take a trip up to the lovely Petersberg. A new bus shuttle and Biergarten make it all the more inviting.

It looks far away and way up high but efforts are being made to bring the historical and beautiful Petersberg closer to the public. A Petersberg shuttle bus has been established to bring guests up to the former government guest house. Once they are there, they can have a beer at the new Biergarten on the north side of the Rhine terrace of the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg.

A pavillion has been built there in the style of an Einkehrhäuschen (retreat house) which was typical in the Rhineland 100 years ago. Inside, it’s modern and when the weather is nice, guests can eat and drink here outdoors from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The restaurant is self-service and casual with beer and other beverages, roast pork, bratwurst and more.

Axel Kunze, a board member of the Federal Institute for Real Estate Management says “We want to invite people from all over the region to come to Petersberg; everyone is welcome. The former guest house will be more open than it was before. We want to make it less intimidating to come here.”

County official, Sebastian Schuster proclaimed, “I declare the wonderful Biergarten open for business! “ He went on to say that this was just the beginning of the renovations and building measures that will come with the 35 million euro promised by the federal government. Hotel director Michael Kain looked at the view of the Rhine valley and asked, “Where is there a better place to sit than here?”

The shuttle bus will run on weekends and holidays between the Königswinter train station and the Petersberg. It leaves hourly between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. from Königswinter to Petersberg and back again. There is also the possibility to board the bus to Petersberg at a stop on Clemens-August-Straße or Wintermühlenhof. On the return trip, one can also board at Rosenauerweg and Wintermühlenhof. One-way tickets are 3 euros, round trip tickets are 5 euros and up to three children (under 14 -years-old) are allowed to ride free with adults.
