Car chase stopped in Bonn Woman with baby on board rams patrol car

A 21-year-old woman caused an around 75 kilometre long car chase with police along the A3, A560, A59 and A565. Police stopped the chase on Graurheindorfer Straße in Bonn. Her one-year-old daughter was also in the car.

An around 75 kilometre long police pursuit of a 21-year-old woman in a Seat ended on Graurheindorfer Straße in Bonn on Thursday morning. She had left the motorway at the Auerberg exit and was driving the wrong way in traffic towards Bonn city centre. Patrol cars overtook the small car and positioned themselves across the street in front of the Seat to stop the dangerous journey.

The 21-year-old from Hanau then drove into the passenger side of a patrol car. No-one was injured. Police discovered a one-year-old girl in a car seat inside the car. Officers detained the woman at the scene and handcuffed her. Alcohol and drugs tests were both negative. It is not yet known why the woman fled from police. Police said when asked it was probably due to family reasons.

The around 75-kilometre-long car chase started because of a trifle. According to police, the driver came to the attention of a patrol car unit while driving towards Oberhausen on the A3 near Montabaur. Police wanted to pull her over at around 8am because of a broken rear light. However, instead of stopping on the hard shoulder, the woman accelerated and tried to get away from the check.

The 21-year-old then drove the Seat at up to 140 kilometres per hour through roadworks where the permitted maximum speed was 60 kilometres per hour. Shortly afterwards, she changed direction from the A3 onto the A560 towards Bonn, then onto the A59 towards Königswinter and finally onto the A565 towards Altenahr. In the meantime, she was not only followed by officers from Rhineland-Palatinate and Bonn, but also by uniformed police officers from Cologne motorway police.

Further investigations revealed that the owner of the Seat is the driver’s father. He had already contacted a police station in Hessen in the early morning and reported that his daughter had taken the car without permission.

Officers confiscated the woman’s driver’s licence and seized the car as evidence. The police took the 21-year-old and her toddler to a police station for further questioning. The young woman is accused of endangering road traffic. Officers also informed the relevant youth welfare office. Questioning of the 21-year-old continues.
