The fire brigade Bonn was called out to an extensive wildfire in Lengsdorf on Friday afternoon, during which one fireman was slightly injured. Practically at the same time, emergency services were called to the Rhine because of a person swimming in the river. At 2.52pm the fire brigade Bonn was called to a blaze near the Im Mühlenbach street. 2,000 squaremeters of a field had caught fire.

A major contingent of 60 firefighters from Bonn, Lengsdorf and Duisdorf fought in three separate sectors of the field. One fireman was injured slightly, he was treated on-site. To secure the basic protection cover in Bonn the voluntary fire brigades from Buschdorf, Holzlar and Holdorf staffed the fire station Bonn. The call-out was finished by 5pm.

Just before the mission in Lengsdorf ended the emergency services were called to the Rhine near the Kennedy bridge at 2.31pm where a person was swimming too near the shipping channel. The swimmer was asked via megaphone to leave the water which he immediately obeyed. After he was instructed about the dangers of his actions, this call-out was concluded. 23 rescue staff were deployed to the river. It was strongly advised again to not swim in the Rhein. Shoals, whirls and strong currents can be life-threatening even to the strongest swimmers. Original text: GA Bonn Translation: Mareike Graepel
