Water police accompany animal Wild boar swims through the Rhine in Bonn

Bonn · Police were kept in suspense on Wednesday by a wild boar in the Rhine River. The animal had injured a cyclist in Limperich before going into the water.

A wandering wild boar landed in the Rhine on Wednesday afternoon. Robert Scholten of the Bonn Police Department said that residents had reported seeing a boar at around 11:15 am in the town of Limperich, running in the direction of the Rhine. Ten minutes later, the wild boar crashed into a bicycle on Drachenfelsweg.

The 61-year-old cyclist had heard a grunt from a driveway before the boar ran into him. An ambulance was called but the man was only slightly injured. After the attack, the animal set off again for the Rhine where it tried without success to board the Rhine ship “Hanseatic City of Hamburg.”

A water police unit sighted the floating boar about 20 meters from shore and accompanied the animal downstream, where it then made its way to Schwarzheindorf. Scholten gave an all clear at 1:15 pm: “The boar is out of the Rhine.” Unfortunately, authorities did not know the subsequent location of the animal. It hid in the local flood zone. The police spokesman could not confirm whether or not the wild boar belonged to a group of three, which had been sighted at the Godesberg stream a few days ago.
