Rhein in Flammen What you need to know

Bonn · It will be a gorgeous day on Saturday for the main event of Rhein in Flammen. Here’s some helpful information to help you navigate.

Around 80,000 visitors are expected for Rhein in Flammen (Rhine in Flames) this weekend. The weather forecast promises perfect conditions for the 30-year Anniversary of this big event. Fireworks are scheduled to begin at around 11:10 p.m. To ensure security, around 500 workers from the Fire Department and other public services will be there to work together with police and emergency medical personnel.

Music on Saturday (3 stages)

RheinEvents Electronic Stage

3 p.m. first music act Flodaree begins followed by eight more music groups and finishing up with the RheinEvents Allstars from 11:35 p.m. -midnight.

Rhein in Flammen

1 p.m. Market opening

4 p.m. Musical act Til followed by eight more music groups, ending with Sir Williams at 11:40 p.m.

RheinImpuls Festival 2016

3:00 p.m. Opens with Memories of July followed by 7 more musical acts; the last one is Thilo Distelkamp at 11:40 p.m.

Public transportation

Extra trains on line RB48

National Express trains will run more often on line RB48. On Saturday night, trains will double their capacity. There will be extra trains running at 12:21 a.m., 1:00 a.m., 1:45 a.m. and 2:10 a.m. from Bonn central station towards Cologne central station. Local buses and trams of SWB

190 buses and all trams will be in operation. They will run according to their special plan until 2 a.m. English language website: http://en.swb-busundbahn.de/

-Until 1:30 a.m., buses will run to the Rheinaue but after that, there will be only the ten night buses.

  • From 5 p.m., no bikes will be permitted on the buses and trams due to space limitations.
  • Color coded signs tell guests in which direction the transportation is headed: towards Cologne (green), towards Koblenz (yellow), towards Euskirchen (red).
  • At the busy stops such as the central train station, Rheinaue or Heusallee/Museumsmeile, there will be transportation employees of SWB to help guests. There are also technical teams there on standby to quickly handle any technical issues that may arise.

Group special ticket deal: A Tagesticket (day ticket) is available for a group of 5 persons for a RT ticket to the Rheinaue. It costs 12,90 and is only good for areas within Bonn.

Closed streets

As in previous years, police expect certain areas to be clogged. All the Bonn Rheinaue exits will be full. From 2 p.m., exits from the Südbrucke will be closed in both directions. Franz-Josef-Strauß-Straße, Petra-Kelly-Straße, and Ludwig-Erhard-Allee will be closed between Sträßchensweg and Heinemannstraße. Entrances to Joseph-Schumann-Allee, Landgrabenweg, Heinrich-Konen-Straße, Königswinterer Straße, Konrad-Zuse Platz, Karl-Duwe-Straße and Oberkasseler Ufer will also be blocked. For these streets, residents need special permission to enter and should have received a letter from the city about it. Entrances to Kalkuhlstraße, Jakobstraße and Kastellstraße will also be temporarily closed. Residents do not need a special permission, however to enter these streets.

Not allowed

Open fires, disposable grills or any glass containers. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Hotline

Police have set up a hotline for Bonn residents during the event on May 7, from 10 a.m. until the close: (0228) 15 30.
