Bonn city center What’s new on the shopping and dining scene
Bonn · For women, there’s a popular new cosmetics store. And a trendy new burger restaurant with birch trees is now open for business.
For those who haven’t been in Bonn city center for awhile, there are some new places to be discovered. A trendy “Hans im Glück” burger restaurant opened Thursday at Friedensplatz, at the corner of Kasernenstraße. It’s the third of the burger restaurant chain in Bonn. A typical mark of the restaurant chain is the some 60 birch trees inside which act as pillars throughout the interior. “But they are all treated with protective materials in terms of fire prevention,” explained an employee with a grin, in response to a nervous customer.With space for 320 diners inside and 60 spaces outside, it is the largest of the “Hans im Glück” restaurants in Bonn.
Opening just a short time ago is the popular cosmetics chain “Mac” at the corner of Sternstraße and Bonngasse. This is sure to please many female customers. Around the corner on Friedrichstraße is the shop “Südstrand” (South beach) which opened in November and offers fashion and accessories. Soon to come is an outdoor store called “Unterwegs” (meaning underway or on the go). It will be on Wenzelgasse where the “Kult” store used to be.
After only two-and-a-half years, the “John Baker and Son” shoe store on Wenzelgasse will close. High rent was cited as one of the reasons. They are opening a new store in Cologne instead. The outdoor store “Steppenwolf” on Friedrichstraße will also close down in a short time because the location didn’t prove financially viable. Fashion store “Robert Ley” will soon have three stores on Wenzelgasse, planning a City-Outlet for men and women to open soon. (Orig. text: Lisa Inhoffen)
