American and English Christmas concert

Collegium Cantandi Bonn: This chamber choir was founded in 1980 and today is made up of 28 singers. The choir’s repertoire includes sacred and secular music and songs from all eras of music history. They will be performing American and English Christmas music during this Advent season with works by Irving Berlin, Felix Bernhard, Jule Styne, Walter Stein, and others.

Life and death of King John!

Life and death of King John!: The Bonn University Shakespeare Company (BUSC) performs the play in English: Chaos reigns in England and France, while the two kings John and Philip are involved in a war of succession over the British throne. And the diabolical puppeteer in the background, the illegitimate daughter of Richard the Lionheart, sets the two parties against each other with relish. Tickets in advance are 15.30 euros with reductions for some who are eligible.

When: December 7 - 9, Friday, Saturday, Sunday at 8pm, as well as December 11 - 14, 8pm

Marx in London

Marx in London at the Bonn Opera: Premieres on Sunday, December 9 at 6pm. Composer Jonathan Dove and author/director Jürgen R. Weber as well as librettist Charles Hart have set themselves the goal of creating an opera that not only tells the story of a day in Marx's life, but also of a day in the life of the mother of all modern metropolises, London. A crazy, entertaining, exciting, but also typical day in all its dynamism and contradiction. In English with German subtitles.

St. Nicholas charity run

1st Bonn Nikolauslauf (St. Nicholas run): The charity run goes through the Rheinaue with routes up to 10 km; for the benefit of the Association Bunter Kreis Rheinland - supporting families who are coping with everyday life with a chronically, seriously ill or prematurely born child.

When: The run begins at 2pm on Sunday, December 9. Runners can go as long as they want, up to 3.5km, 6.7km or 10km. Registration deadline was Wednesday but you are welcome to come along and support the runners and charity.

Where: The runs all begin and end at the Park Restaurant Rheinaue, Ludwig-Erhard-Allee 20.

Advent cruise on the Rhine with the Moby Dick

Moby Dick Christmas boat ride: Experience a Christmas round trip ride (without getting off) on the Moby Dick river cruiser on the Rhine between Bonn and Königswinter with live Christmas music. There is a menu with a large selection of food and drinks, such as mulled wine, delicious waffles or hearty stews. Departures are at 12:30pm and 3pm and the trip lasts around 2 hours.

Where: All cruises leave from docking bridge 9 at the Alter Zoll. 12,50 € per person (advance booking price via www.bonnticket.de) Children from 4 to 13 years cost 7,50 € and the price at the door is €15.50. The price includes the boat trip and live music.

When: Saturday, December 8, Sunday, December 9, Sunday, December 16 and Saturday, December 22 at 12:30pm only.

Play for small children

Der kleine Rabe Socke: This German play about a little raven is from the picture book by Nele Moost and Annet Rudolph and is suitable for kids from 3 years and up. Take the wee ones for a shopping break in the nice atmosphere of this book store in a historic theater building.

Where: Put on by the Junges Theater Bonn (Youth Theater Bonn) in the cupola of the Thalia-Metropol book store, Markt 24, Bonn city center.

When: At 10am on Friday and 3pm on Saturday.

Ice Skating at Bonn on Ice

Bonn On Ice. It’s that time of year again when the weather is cold and winter sports are cool. Anyone who is inclined can put on some ice skates and do some figure eights around the ice skating rink in Bonn city center.

Where: Rental skates are available at the rink, Stadtgarten am Alten Zoll, Adenauerallee.

When: Open on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 10pm and on Sunday from 10 am - 9pm.

The Köln Show

The Köln (Cologne) Show: "Everyone can become a Cologne citizen -- in just 60 minutes". Enjoy this “fun-filled, fast-paced, insider-led journey through the Kölsch cosmos and back to the corner pub.” The website describes it like this: “The Köln Show is like the city and its beer: palatable, fresh and in a good spirit! The ultimate show for tourists, connoisseurs, expats and day trippers.”

When: Lunch performances are at 1pm, December 7, 8, 15, 17, 20, 21.

River shore lights

River shore lights Bad Neuenahr: Experience a unique festive atmosphere in the spa gardens of Bad Neuenahr, in the setting on the Ahr river bank. Visitors will be enchanted by the dreamlike lighted atmosphere and decorations from master florist Gregor Lersch, along with hand made arts and crafts, jewelry and more. Discover the regional specialities and unusual offers of the culinary stands in the Kurpark.

When: On Friday, December 7 the theme is “Christmas in Great Britain”, on the 8th, Saturday, it is “Christmas in Italy,” and on the 9th, Sunday, it is “Christmas in the Netherlands” and “Christmas in the whole world.”

Lucia market

Lucia market: Coming up soon is the Swedish tradition of Lucia when girls and boys dress in white gowns and sing to celebrate Saint Lucia, the bearer of light. In the idyllic wine-growing village of Rech, near Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, there will be a 3-day market to celebrate the tradition. The market boasts craftsmen and traders who design their market stands with style and great attention to detail. Woodcarvers, broom-makers, potters, blacksmiths and florists offer their wares for sale. Beekeepers, farmers and bakers and many other market people surprise visitors with a variety of goods cultivated locally.

When and where: It all begins with a torchlight walk at 4:30pm on Friday, December 7, starting at the Ahr bridge. On Saturday, the stands open at 11am and from 1:30 pm, there will be pony rides for the kids. Sunday is the last day of the market, with the highlight being a walk through the village with the “Swedish Light Queen” Lucia at 5pm.
