November 9 - 11 Weekend tips for Bonn and the region

Bonn/Region · An antique fair, a fall Martin’s market in wine country and music from Memphis to Australia, it’s all happening this weekend. Some popular movies are showing as well and be on the lookout for signs of carnival come Sunday!

Antika Bonn

Antika Bonn is an antiques fair coming to Bad Godesberg this weekend. Numerous exhibitors are at the ANTIKA fair Bonn with antiques, art, pictures, cutlery and dishes as well as antique furniture. Every collector and lover of antiques will enjoy visiting ANTIKA BONN. It opens on Friday at the Stadthalle Bad Godesberg, Koblenzer Str. 80 from 4pm -8pm. It is also open 11am - 7pm on Saturday, and 11am - 6pm on Sunday, (0228) 528810.

Start of the carnival season at Bonn Marktplatz

You may see lots of people running around in costume on Sunday, and everyone is certainly welcome to join in the fun. With cannon shots from the Bonn City Soldier Corps of 1872 and the Honorary Guard of the City of Bonn, the Bonn Carnival Festival Committee opens the carnival season with Mayor Ashok Sridharan. It begins on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at 11.11am. on Bonn's Marktplatz in the city center. Visitors can look forward to a fun program and appearances from carnival royalty, and we suspect beers and brats. The gathering begins at 10:15am, Sunday.

The Night Watchman tour

Historical tour of Bonn in English: These were dangerous times and the tasks which faced the night watchman meant that it was certainly not an easy job. Apart from dealing with the normal rabble and riff-raff in and around the city, the electoral capital of Bonn was threatened in the 17th century by war, fire and pestilence with the bubonic plague. The tour is in English and meets on Rheingasse at the corner of Brassertufer at 7pm (tour lasts around 2 hours). Tickets are 12/ 10 euros. Fright Fight Flight

At the Künstlerforum (Artists’ Forum) in Bonn, “Fright Fight Flight” is an interdisciplinary project of dance theatre, visual and acoustic art. The international collaboration with video artist Lieve Vanderschaeve and composer Dyane Donck looks at the many different perspectives and reasons for escape. Everyday and individual experiences are explored alongside the current refugee theme: Where do we flee to - another country, dream worlds, drugs or under the blanket? Equipped with headphones, visitors move around with

A Tribute to U2

The North German band - Achtung Baby! - named after the 7th studio album of U2 - have been one of the most sought-after tribute bands of the Irish superstars for years. “A Star is Born” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” at Kinopolis

It’s a great weekend to go to the movies as two popular films with broad appeal are showing in English this weekend at Kinopolis Theater in Bad Godesberg. “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a movie about the singing career of Queen lead singer Freddy Mercury is scheduled for Friday evening at 8:30pm (OV). “A Star is Born” with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is showing on Sunday evening at 8:10pm (OV). Impulse at the GOP Varieté

Now showing at the GOP Varieté-Theater is “Impulse” - a show that breaks down boundaries, carries you away, and provides an unforgettable experience combining music, pictures and movement. Staged by extraordinary dancers, acrobats and instrumentalists. The sounds of the show are pure, live and specially arranged by director Nikos Hippler. The scenery is also spectacular. “Impulse” is modern stage art at its best. The show is two hours including break. The show premiers Friday at 6pm, with a second showing at 9:30pm. Memphis rock’n roll

James and the Ultrasounds from Memphis play at Kult 41 on Saturday. On the Kult 41 website, the music is described as “wonderful, dirty loud rock @ roll from Memphis, with a taste of country - James and the ultrasounds are an absolute cannon.” The Filthtones perform as supporting band. Martin’s Market in Dernau

Running Friday through Sunday this weekend is the (Saint) Martin’s Market of regional pleasures in the village center of Dernau. It’s billed as a precursor to the Christmas markets, with a touch of wine festival added. Expect decorated traditional winegrower's and market stands, handicraft stalls, jewelry from homemade designs and handmade decorations, toys, a children's carousel and much more. The Cat Empire in Cologne

Australian band The Cat Empire say their “reputation is built upon a chaotic and fiercely uplifting live show that, last year over half a million people bought tickets to see.” The band made up of 6 musicians comes from Melbourne. “They have accumulated fans as voraciously as stamps in their passports; a global army of people of all ages who tell stories of driving hundreds of kilometers, giving up day jobs, flying across the world, falling in love in a crowd, and overcoming the insurmountable in order to wave their hands in the air in revelry at a show.” At the Palladium, standing places only, Schanzenstr. 36, Cologne, 8pm. “Neville’s Island” from The Bonn Players: English theater brought to you by the Bonn Players. This play from Tim Firth will run from November 20 - 24 at the Brotfabrik in Beuel, Kreuzstrasse 16. It’s about four men who, in the course of their firm’s team-building exercise, become stranded on an island in the middle of the Lake District in England. Their shortcomings become clear when it comes to surviving in their “remote” surroundings. Thanksgiving Dinner: The American German Business Club (AGBC) invites members and friends to their annual Thanksgiving Dinner with a 3-course meal, including a traditional turkey and trimmings.
