After four years of hiatus Waldau: traditional inn re-opens

Ippendorf · The new tenants of the traditional inn, the Waldau, celebrated the re-opening with guests from politics and local societies. The good weather drew many curious visitors to the Venusberg.

The brightly lit Gasthaus Waldau offered its guests the desired atmosphere of the originally very popular inn. „We are offering coffee, cake and a full menu“, said part-owner and head chef Thomas Hermann.

After a few days of test runs, the team of ten cooked for 150 invited guests, including Lord Mayor Ashok Sridharan, as well many representatives of local clubs and societies, and friends of the new tenants. The team from Lohmeier’s restaurant, Dacapo, is hoping to turn the location into one of Bonn’s most popular again, after four years being closed.

Hermann heard a lot of encouragement from many sides during the days leading up to the re-opening, and many reservations were made for restaurant and the event hall alike. The Bonn people seem to have missed „their“ Waldau.

„The vacancy up here was really a catastrophe“, says Georg Goetz, city council spokesperson, summing up the situation on the Venusberg/Ippendorf.

„Particularly on days like on Sunday this weekend, a lot of people come to visit the game reserve and the playground, and asked when the restaurant will re-open.“

Now finally, the time has come: Wednesday to Saturday from 11am until midnight and on Sunday from 10am, guests can enjoy brunch, lunch and dinner. And many came during the first few days…
