Expansion in gastronomy branch Vapiano wants to open airport restaurants

BONN · Cologne-based restaurant chain Vapiano is planning to open outlets at airports and train stations. It is a joint project with the Italian Autogrill Group.

Cologne restaurant chain Vapiano wants to work together on a new project with catering service provider HMSHost, a subsidiary of the Italian Autogrill Group. On Thursday, Vapiano announced that the aim of the cooperation would be to open Vapiano restaurants at airports and train stations in the UK, Scandinavia, Germany and the Netherlands.

According to the company, the restaurants will have a space of 250 to 350 square meters. The food could either be eaten on location or ordered as take-away. “The cooperation enables us to open further Vapianos at international locations and increase our profile,” says CEO Jochen Halfmann.

As Vapiano announced just a few weeks ago, according to current estimates, their revenue for the past year was up to 335 million euros. The company, which is listed on the stock exchange, currently operates 205 restaurants in 33 countries but is operating altogether at a loss.
