United Nations UN Campus to get new tram stop

Bonn · Work is to begin on a new tram stop to benefit UN employees and other workers in the area. The “Bonn UN-Campus” stop is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

Deutsche Bahn will begin work in mid-February to clear land for a new tram stop called “Bonn UN-Campus”. Some trees and bushes have to be cut down between Bonn and Bad Godesberg at Walter-Flex-Straße to make room for the stop. The project is being completed in close cooperation with the city, and is intended to make it easier for those who work in the United Nations area and former government quarter to get to work.

“After the clearing work is completed, work will begin on the overhead line and signaling system,” according to Deutsche Bahn. During the construction period, the railway crossing at Walter-Flex-Straße will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists. Signs will be posted to redirect people.

Deutsch Bahn plans to spend 7.9 million Euro on the new “Bonn UN-Campus” stop. In addition to the construction of two platforms, ramps and stairs are planned, as well as a pedestrian underpass. The tram stop is expected to be in operation by the end of 2017. Deutsche Bahn estimates that 4000 passengers will use the stop on a daily basis.
