Witnesses pursue thieves Two thefts at Bonn jewelry stores

Bonn · A man stole from a jewelry store in Bonn city center on Wednesday morning. Thanks to attentive witnesses, police were able to find the perpetrator in record time. A similar incident happened the day before.

Police needed only three minutes to detain a jewelry thief after attentive passers-by helped them with key information. Frank Piontek, police spokesperson, confirmed the information to GA on Wednesday.

It was a well-coordinated effort on the part of police but the easily identifiable clothing of the 29-year-old perpetrator also led to his quick detention. After the man took a jewelry case from a Bonn jewelry store, witnesses followed the man and were able to give police a good description of his craftsman’s clothing, Piontek explained. The police telephone rang at 10:50 am and at 10:53 am, the suspect was in handcuffs.

Already the evening before, there had been a robbery at a jeweler in Bonn city center. At around 9:10 pm, the perpetrator had attacked the jeweler in front of his business on Kölnstraße and tried to force him back into his shop. The jeweler resisted and was slightly injured.

In that instance, police said that two witnesses became aware of what was going when they heard the victim’s cry for help. They followed the suspect and stopped him at Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz. Police were called and they arrested the 44-year-old man. After questioning at the police department, the suspect was released and is now facing further investigation.
