“Michelin Guide” 2017 Two Bonn restaurants awarded with “Michelin” stars

Bonn · German cuisine is no longer just about the bratwurst; the new “Michelin Guide” has lots of praise for the gastronomy scene in Germany today. This year, two restaurants in Bonn were awarded with the prestigious “Michelin” stars.

The gastronomy branch in Germany is booming. Top restaurants received more “Michelin” stars this year than ever before. Many restaurants climbing their way up the culinary ladder are in the Rhineland. In Bonn, “EQUU” and “Kaspars” received one star each while in Düsseldorf three restaurants were awarded and in Cologne, two restaurants. Altogether in North Rhine Westphalia, seven establishments received a “Michelin” star for their high quality cuisine for the first time.

292 restaurants are listed in the “Guide Michelin” 2017 which was published on Thursday. It includes two more restaurants than in the year before. The guide praised the German gastronomy scene for innovation and creativity, mixing up traditional with modern cooking. Ten restaurants received the highest rating with three stars, which was the same as last year.

In the new guide, 31 restaurants were awarded a star for the first time. Of those, three received two stars: “Rutz” in Berlin, “Opus V” in Mannheim and “Geisels Werneckhof” in Munich. It was 51 years ago when German restaurants received their first “Michelin” star. The French hotel and restaurant guide is considered the “Bible of Gourmets.” (Orig. text: ga)
