July 19 – 21 Tips for the weekend in Bonn and the region

Bonn · Summer returns - and with it the spirit of summer events. In addition to numerous concerts and events in the countryside, the Rheinbach Classics are open to all classic car fans and there are first-class cabaret and theatre plays on this weekend. Here are our tips for the next few days.

Artistic show at the GOP Varieté-Theater

The power lies in the peace and quiet: according to this motto, a group of young artists around the Swiss comedian Claude Criblez has been presenting the finest and most dynamic artistry since 12 July. The audience can admire aerial acrobatics, Ikaric games, diabolo and juggling.

Soul United in the beer garden at Rheinaue

As usual, the Jazz series in the beer garden presents the band Soul United with their program "A Tribute to Aretha Franklin & More". The singer Cinja Pausewang and her band perform the most famous songs of the iconic "Queen of Soul“.

"Stardust" at the Cologne Summer Festival

A special highlight at the 32nd Cologne Summer Festival is the show "Stardust - from Bach to Bowie" at the Kölner Philharmonie. The US-American Complexions Contemporary Ballet will dance classical music by the composer Bach with the glam-rock hits of singer David Bowie.

Sinzig Wine Summer

Only a few people are still suspicious of it; for others it has long since been acceptable: the combination of Sinzig and wine at the Sinziger Weinsommer. For the tenth time now, guests from Sinzig and the region have the opportunity to taste international and regional wines at various open-air concerts.

"Brandheiß" in the Contra-Kreis Theater

In the comedy by Jette Findeisen the title of the play is the program („Brandheiß“ translates into „red hot“ or „piping hot“). The Contra-Kreis Theater has solid air conditioning so that even a hot stage show does not endanger the circulation of the audience members. The reduced clothing is a recipe for success. A little wickedness is allowed to get the cash register right. It's about the finances of the voluntary fire brigade of Drottelfeld - an idyllic village in Schleswig-Holstein.

Goethe's Gardens on the Roof of the Bundeskunsthalle

He is well known to most as a poet, but less so as a gardener and botanist. Until his death, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe worked on the design of a garden and carried out botanical studies. Since April, the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn has been showing gardens on its roof based on Goethe's model. The poet's relationship to the city of Bonn is also discussed. Book exchange in the foyer of the LVR State Museum

Under the motto "Swap romance novels for thrillers", the 8th book exchange campaign in the LVR Landesmseum has started punctually at the beginning of the summer holidays. The rules are simple: Each participant brings one or two books of his own and goes home with one or two new books.

Flea Market in the Rheinaue

It is one of the largest German flea markets: On good days, up to 2000 private traders offer goods of every kind for sale at the Rheinauen flea market - under pagodas, on tables or on blankets. Surely many flea fans will be able to take advantage of the sunny weather on weekends.

Classic cars and music at the Rheinbach Classics

At the 14th Rheinbach Classics, more than 200 vehicles will be presented in the city centre from 1920 to 1989. Furthermore, the classic car rally is planned for Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm, followed by the award ceremony, while on Sunday at 11 am there will be a vintage car parade through the centre of Rheinbach. Music fans can also look forward to a colourful programme of concerts and shows on several stages.

Tickets: Admission costs 8 Euro on Saturdays, 10 on Sundays or 15 Euro for the whole weekend - with an option for a reduction. On Saturday, the price is only charged for the stage and concert areas on the Himmeroder Wall (from 4 pm). On Sunday, however, the admission fee applies to the entire event area in the Rheinbach city centre. Vintage cart drivers (two adults per car) have free admission.

Open garden gate Rhineland

As a rule, only friends, family or acquaintances are allowed to enter the gardens. On Saturday and Sunday in Bonn and the region however again the gates of numerous private gardens are open for all people. This is intended to show how imaginative and diverse private garden culture can be in the Rhineland. The gardens that can be visited can be found on the organizer's homepage.

Poppelsdorfer castle concerts in the Arkadenhof

The Poppelsdorfer Schlosskonzerte in the Arkadenhof of the University of Bonn go into the next round. Under the title "Hommage an Mozart" several works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Mendelssohn will be presented this week under the open sky by the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn.

Hot Jazz GmbH in the beer garden at Rheinaue

Hot Jazz GmbH will continue the Jazz in the Biergarten series on Saturday: the nine-strong band has been presenting a colourful mix of Dixieland, swing, pop and rock in Bonn and the region for 20 years. As with the other concerts in the beer garden, admission is free.

Opening fair of the Apollinaris pilgrimage

The Apollinaris pilgrimage begins on Saturday with a solemn mass with the Apollinaris choir. After the Apollinaris head has been raised by the pastor of Remagen (Frank Klupsch), a procession takes place during which the city is blessed.

Jakobs market in Remagen

On the occasion of the Apollinaris pilgrimage, in addition to the Christian fair, there is a traditional pilgrimage market with the Jakobs market, where a good 250 traders sell their goods. There is also a small but fine fair, a children's flea market and shops open to the public throughout the city.

Konrad Beikircher with #Beethoven

„Dat dat dat darf!“ („That he’s allowed to do that!“) The Rhineland cabaret artist and author Konrad Beikircher tells of Beethoven in his new program. But he is not interested in the musical work of the old master - he wants to portray him as the man who was Bonn's most famous son. Or did you know that Ludwig van Beethoven was a helicopter uncle, once blackmailed a prince and liked to hide Rhine songs in his compositions?

Seatown Seven on the roof of the Bundeskunsthalle

The second half of the GA Summer Garden will be rung in with familiar faces. On the roof of the Bundeskunsthalle, Seatown Seven will once again present New Orleans-Jazz, Dixie and Swing in the style of Louis Armstrong and Fletcher Henderson. The band will be led on this occasion by their last remaining founding member Adrian van Saucken, who hasn't lost the fun of occasional appearances at over 80 years of age.

GOP on the KunstRasen

For the first time, the GOP Varieté-Theater Bonn, in cooperation with KunstRasen, is showing a few excerpts from its open-air programme. Around the Swiss comedian Claude Criblez, the finest and most dynamic artistry will be presented under the motto "Slow". Admission is free of charge.
