Museum König Three young people “chillin” on the roof

Bonn · An alert neighbor picked up the phone and called police but the young people on top of the museum were just out “chillin.” They had no intention of breaking in to the museum.

At first, a neighbor of the Museum König thought she was witnessing a burglary so she picked up the phone and called police. She had seen several people on top of the building, which is protected by a historical preservation order. On Monday evening at around 10 pm, police arrived with nine squad cars, paramedics and the fire department to surround the museum on Adenauerallee.

Accompanied by a museum employee, police then went from inside the building up to the rooftop, said police spokesman Frank Piontek. Up on the roof, they came upon two young women and a young man, who Piontek described as “pretty relaxed.” They had no intention of breaking in. The police report reads that the motive for their visit to the museum roof was “chillin.”

Climbing tour with sparkling wine

With a bottle of sparkling wine in hand, the trio said they climbed a winding staircase that served as a fire escape route. Then the night owls climbed over a wall. Apparently, they wanted to enjoy the view. On the way back down, they were escorted by police officers on a less treacherous route through the indoor stairway.

All three of the young people were from Bonn, including a 19-year-old and an 18-year-old woman, and a 18-year-old man. The museum employee filed a trespassing complaint. No damages were reported and the three young people were released but police are proofing whether the trio can be billed for the police call.
