Gastro guide The world of Polish Wodka

Bonn · Behind an inconspicuous address at the Talweg in Bonn, there is concealed a young Bonn enterprise called „Wodka, please“, run by shareholders Magdalena and Victor Fischer as well as Agnes Korn.

Since autumn 2015, the company creates a bridge to the world of Polish Wodka. And, as Victor Fischer admits outright, they want to change the image of the drink for the better, to polish it up (no pun intended).

The trio is responsible for the distribution of over 100 brands from our Eastern neighbour, some of them are exclusively sold through them - like „Miodula“, a honey wodka. „The Miodula symbolises what Polish wodka means: ripening in an oak barrel and the addition of ingredients, in this case through the added honey“, said Fischer. He is French by birth, while his wife Magdalena and colleague Agnes Korn were born in Poland. Though his parents-in-law he got in touch with the cult brand Miodula, because they live very close to the production facility.

The recipe for the honey works stems from the 18th century, the brand exists since the early 1990s. 2013 it won the „DoubleGold Medal“ in the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. On the base of wheat wodka, water from the Vistula, forest honey from the mountain area in South Poland and a herb and spice mix are mixed together. The alcohol content is about 40 percent. The honey wodka is stored in oak barrels for a year, then the label is handwritten, including the signatures of two inspectors.

So far the brand is available in nine countries, in Bonn it can be consumed in the Brotfabrik, in Limes music café, in Jolig’s, in II Melo and in Che Guevara. The half litre bottle costs 26 Euro in the Polonoa Market in Kölnstraße.

Info: Miodula can be ordered via contact@wodkaplease.com. More information is available at www.miodula.com.

Save the date: On March 24, there will be a Polish wodka tasting in the Brotfabrik.
