The Ohm Hein has existed for seven decades already this year. Now, new owners Constantin von Hochberg and Volker Deuster have taken over the traditional country inn. Von Hochberg was head chef for five years previously, and Deuster used to be a waiter there in his teenage years. He previously ran the Zur Post inn, just 100 meters from his new job, for 14 years.

The new owner duo removed the hunting lodge decorations including stuffed animals and antlers, got rid of the Persian carpets, installed new lights and hung colourful paintings by a regional artist on the walls. The new ambience presents itself „not too modern, but not too old-fashioned and with more of a difference“, says von Hochberg.

180 guests can be seated in the restaurant, and the bar area was revived too. The pond in the beer garden was filled in and the now extended terrace seats another 60 people. The hotel rooms across the road (single 49 Euro, double 80 Euro, for B& B) were all equipped with smart TVs.

On the menu: Beside asparagus specialties from Meckenheim there are lumberjack steaks with fried onions, chips and cabbage salad (18 Euro), salad with strips of turkey breast (12 Euro), salmon filet with lime sauce, leaf spinach and basmati rice (20 Euro), Jägerschnitzel „Ohm Hein style“ with chips and salad (14 Euro) and grilled goats’ cheese with forest honey and thyme on pan-fried vegetables and herb tagliatelle (15 Euro). Monday marks Reibekuchen (potato waffles) Day and if pre-ordered you can also get Döppekuchen. On Fridays, the menu also lists various fresh fish dishes.

On draught: Reissdorf Kölsch and Bitburger (0.3l for 2.60 Euro), and Bitburger Kellerbier (0.3l for 2.80 Euro). The open white wines include a Benediktiner (0.5l for 4.50 Euro), and 12 other examples from 4.80 Euro (0.2l), like the Pinot Noir Nikolaus N from Mayschoß (Ahr) for 5.20 Euro and over 30 bottles starting from 17 Euro, like the Pinot Gris Terra Blanc by Brogsitter (19 Euro) or the Caballo Loco Lontué by Vina Valdivieso from Chile (59 Euro).
