Bonn’s market square The Christmas Tree arrived

Bonn · It’s 13 meters high and weighs about two tons: The original Nordmann pine tree was erected in front of the old City Hall in Bonn now.

An old German Christmas poem by Theodor Storm, recited by many children on Christmas Eve tells the story of the Christkind talking to Knecht Ruprecht. It starts like this: From out there, from the forest, I am coming here - and the same can be said for the pine tree, which was brought into the city centre by employees of the city council.

It was now erected with the aid of a crane, on the market square in Bonn. The green giant comes from a Sauerland forestry and will - decorated with Christmas lights - add a Christmas atmosphere to the square in front of the old City Hall. Other squares like the Münsterplatz as well as the squares in Bad Godesberg, Beuel and Hardenberg have been decorated with pine trees also. The Stadtwerke are in charge of the LED illumination.

The tree is being transported into the city centre of Bonn from the Christmas Tree nursery and forestry company Hanses-Ketteler, where Klauber Freizeit sources most of its Christmas trees. The setting up of the tree is a new logistical challenge for suppliers and City Council employees every year. T(h)ree people have to help with the transport, complex machinery and a semitrailer is also needed. For erecting the trees which usually takes about two hours, a heavy-duty crane is being used.
