Pedestrians fed up Storm knocks over building site fence at Bonner Loch

Bonn · Pedestrians in Bonn city centre are annoyed: once again the footpath on the south superstructure has been made narrower. However, this is only a temporary measure according to the city authorities.

It was obvious that the footpath by the building site around the south superstructure would be restricted. Demolition of the building complex there is no easy job. But since Friday morning, it has become almost impossible to walk in front of the central train station in the direction of Poststrasse.

The footpath leading to the city is no wider than one metre and this is making life difficult for pedestrians. They have to squeeze past one another as well as negotiate past the many bicycles along the wall towards the Bonner Loch. In addition to the site fence, builders have blocked off an area around two meters wide between the fence and the Bonner Loch with barrier tape.

The city council had originally assured that during the building works a path of at least 3.5 metres would be available. In response to an enquiry from the General-Anzeiger, the Municipal Press Office stated that the cordoning off at the Bonner Loch and south superstructure has been agreed to by the Civil Construction Office and is only temporary. The site fence was apparently knocked over during a storm and this is the reason for the additional barrier tape. As soon as the fence has been resurrected, the tape and the pollards will be removed and the footpath can be reinstated. (Original text: Lisa Inhoffen. Translation: Caroline Payne)
