British glam rock band Slade to play open air concert in Rheinbach

Rheinbach · One of the most successful British rock bands of the 70’s will come to Rheinbach to give an open air concert this summer. Tickets for Slade are on sale now.

If guitarist Dave Hill and drummer Don Powell were to wear the same big shiny boots that they wore on stage for their concerts back then, the audience might fear for their 70‘s idols. They are two of the original remaining members of the British glam rock band Slade. Some 40 years later, they have given up on the flashy 70’s outfits and this summer, the wildly successful band will be coming to perform in the region.

On Friday, July 14 at 8 pm, Slade and the Bonn band Dirty Deeds ’79 will open the 12th Rheinbach Classics at the Himmeroder Wall. Slade boasts 17 Top-20 Hits, six of them having reached Number 1, three at Number 2 and two songs at Number 3, making them them a best-selling British band of the 70’s. On the international hit parade were songs like “Far Far Away,” “Mama Weer All Crazee Now,” and “Cum On Feel the Noize.”

Slade songwriters Nobby Holder and Jim Lea experience repeated success every Christmas with their hit “Merry Xmas Everyone.” And the original hit from 1974 - “Far Far Away” was re-released in 1993 in Germany, reaching place 19. Its comeback was in connection with an advertisement for fashion retailer C & A.

The British musicians from the West Midlands are considered pioneers of the glam and glitter rock scene. Their crazy outfits, wild hair and platform shoes coupled with their unmistakeable Slade sound and vocals were their trademark. Besides Dave Hill and Don Powell, two other original band members will be on the stage in Rheinbach.

New this year is the “Classics Rock Night” on Friday evening. After Slade gets it started, the AC/DC tribute band from Bonn, Dirty Deeds ’79 will play hits from the hard rock legends. Classics like “TNT”, “Hells Bells” and “Highway to Hell” will also fill up the night air.

Tickets: 28 euros plus service fees, on sale at GA-Ticket Offices:branches , at bonnticket.de, (0228) 50 20 10, or rheinbach classics, also at the First Reisebüro in Rheinbach, or the Raffeisenbank, both at Hauptstraße 36-46, Rheinbach.
