Arrest in Bonn Shots fired from wedding procession - out of joy

Bonn · A wedding party’s appearance in Bonn on Sunday lunchtime led to the police being called out. Police made an unexpected arrest during checks.

A festively dressed wedding party of Turkish origin caused a commotion at the Bonn roundabout on Sunday lunchtime and led to a major police operation when they drove in a procession of 15 cars by a petrol station there at around 1pm. Several volleys of shots, apparently fired from blank guns by the good-humoured occupants during the journey through Bonn’s city centre, attracted particular attention. Shocked witnesses then called the police, who approached in several patrol cars.

Officers did not find a weapon, but did find a 23-year-old member of the wedding party against whom an arrest warrant had been issued for disturbing the peace. The man was arrested and taken to prison, where he must remain for six months.

The other members of the party did not get off scot-free. The police have started investigations against unknown persons for breaches of weapons laws. One witness took video footage, which is currently being evaluated by detectives. Officers later let the convoy drive on. Its destination was Cologne. Bonn police informed their colleagues in the cathedral city about the incident in good time.
