Weather in Bonn and the region Severe weather disrupts railways

Bonn · The week started out with summer-like temperatures and lots of sun. But thunderstorms have been rolling into the region since Wednesday afternoon - with consequences.

The German Weather Service (DWD) warns against severe thunderstorms in Bonn and the Rhine-Sieg district. Localized hail and strong winds up to 115 kmh are possible. This is strong enough to uproot trees and damage roofs. Since Wednesday afternoon, the storms have been spreading over Bonn and the region.

In the areas of Troisdorf and Niederkassel, the fire departments have already been called out many times due to overturned trees. There are also disturbances on the railway tracks around Bonn. As Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) reported, the stretches between Brühl and Sechtem as well as the entire route between Bonn and Koblenz have experienced disruptions. Beginning already this morning, there were considerable disruptions of rail traffic throughout NRW due to power supply problems.

The weather service advises residents to close windows and doors during the storm and avoid being outdoors. On Thursday it will remain windy, but the sun will peek through the clouds more and more. On Friday, the DWD expects a summer day reaching 30 degrees Celcius with lots of sun and no rain. (Orig. text: ga.de)
