High rise building in Tannenbusch Seven injured in fire at housing complex

Bonn · In a fire at a housing complex at the Bunzlauer Weg in Tannenbusch, seven people were injured on Wednesday evening. The fire brigade arrived with a large contingent.

The blaze started in a cellar, where a motor scooter had caught fire. Seven people were brought to hospitals after breathing in burnt gas.

According to Albert Lehmann, squad leader of the fire brigade, a caller had reported a smoke generation in the cellar area around 6pm. Several fire trucks and ambulances were launched to attend in Tannenbusch and lined up at the Oppelner Straße.

„When we arrived, several people were running towards us in the hall“, said Lehmann. While investigating the cellar, the fire brigade searched for any people remaining in the building. In total, nine people were brought outside by the fire brigade. Seven of them needed to be brought to the hospital after being checked by the emergency services.

„It appeared that a motor scooter and other items were burning in the cellar“, said Lehmann. The fire was brought under control quickly. Already at 7pm, the residents were allowed back into their apartments.

The police are investigating the cause of the fire.

INFO:

What to do in case of a fire:

- Call 112.
- Explain what is happening, where you are, how many people are in danger.
- Stay calm.
- Let the fire brigade first responder ask you what he/she needs to know, they are professionals and can judge the situation much better than anyone else.
- Keep in mind that heat rises and fire needs oxygen - climbing up the stairs or opening windows can have fatal consequences- rather crawl on the floor to the safest exit.
- Always know where the nearest and safest exit is in a building, also in hotels or offices in high-rise buildings.
