Accident in Wachtberg-Villip Seriously injured man pinned in his car

WACHTBERG-VILLIP.  · An early morning accident on Wachtbergring left a man trapped in his car. He sustained serious injuries.

At around 3:40 am on Thursday morning, a driver lost control of his small Toyota vehicle and crashed into a tree in the industrial area of Villip. Authorities do not yet know what caused him to lose control of his car.

The man was trapped in his vehicle and it was completely demolished. Fire fighters were notified by a siren alarm and a large contingency rushed to the scene. Markus Zettelmeyer was in charge of the fire brigade and he said they were able to talk to the driver when they arrived at the crash site. Freeing him from the damaged car was complicated. “In the leg area, the man was totally pinned in” said Zettelmeyer.

After emergency personnel stabilized his condition, fire department workers began to use heavy equipment to free him, acting cautiously to avoid causing him further injury. The roof of the car had to be removed. It took workers around 45 minutes to free the seriously injured driver, who likely sustained fractures. An ambulance rushed him to the hospital. During the duration of the rescue operation, the Wachtbergring was blocked off for about two hours. (Orig. text: Axel Vogel)
