Building freeze at Subway site Sandwich restaurant opening delayed until the autumn

Bonn-Beuel · The building works at the former bakery Lubig at the Königswinterer Straße in Beuel-Ost are suspended for the moment. The franchise company Subway wants to open a branch there.

When asked, Maria Wild, Subway spokesperson, said: „We can assure you that the location at the Königswinterer Straße is still going according to plan.“ She did not elaborate on why the building freeze set in. „During the development of a restaurant there can always be unexpected delays“, said Wild.

The Subway chain is a fast food diner company, offering open sandwiches. According to the company, the work will be resumed in August. It is planned to open the branch in the early autumn.

Already two years ago, Subway was supposed to open a branch at the Rathausvorplatz in Beuel. By mutual agreement, a dissolution contract was drawn up between landlord and tenant at the time. One of the reasons behind that decision was the preference of citizens who would rather have a café or similar in that pavilion. Today, it holds an ice-cream parlour.
