Many commuters got caught in a series of small road works on the B9 towards Rolandswerth. The tailback dragged on to the train station in Mehlem. The commute that is usually only a few minutes, took drivers up to 45 minutes during rush hour.

The city council had announced the restoration of several parts of the Remagener Straße and the Mainzer Straße near the house number 328. But the effects were underestimated by many. To facilitate the works, the Remagener Straße will be a single lane southbound in several sections, according to the public works service.

On the Mainzer Straße, near the border to Rhineland-Palatinate, traffic lights were installed. „As part of the road works, damaged spots in the surface will be repaired and the road will get new tarmac“, said Monika Frömbgen, deputy head of the public works service. She was expecting fewer problems on Tuesday because no tarmac was laid down due to the constant rain falls. Thus the traffic lights were switched off. They will be in use again from Wednesday to Friday, according to Frömbgen. By then the works are supposed to be finished.

Because the B9 is a busy road. the city council decided to arrange the repair works during the light traffic season in the summer holidays. „We advised the construction firm to check the situation on-site and adjust the traffic light signal timing, if possible“, said Frömbgen. The city council is aware of the inconvenience caused, and is asking for the commuters’ understanding.
