Flea market and fair in Bad Godesberg Residents want more events at the Rigal’schen Wiese

Bad Godesberg · The family flea market attracted many visitors to the Rigal’schen Wiese Park on Sunday. People who attended would like to see even more of these types of events held there.

More flea markets at the Rigal'schen Wiese (Wiese means meadow) in Bad Godesberg; Mathilda thinks that would be a good idea. The nine-year-old sold books and toys at the family holiday flea market on Sunday, things she and her brother had sorted through. And in her opinion, there could be more circuses too. Her father, Stefan Schäfer, however, looked skeptically at the park lawn, where the Christmas circus stood: "The lawn is still in bad shape." But children's dreams know no boundaries, and Mathilda would find it best if the carnival also took place on the grass. And when it rains and the ground is under water? "Then you would just have to build a big roof over it," suggested the nine-year-old.

Schäfer guesses that the family from Bad Godesberg goes to the Rigal’schen Wiese around two to five times a year. The children play soccer there. In general, Schäfer thinks there is enough for families to do in the area, he can’t think of anything that is missing. And when it comes to teenagers? Well, he hadn’t thought about that yet because his children are still too small. A swimming pool maybe? There is, of course the “Friesi” pool (in Friesdorf) and the Panorama outdoor pool in Rüngsdorf, Schäfer points out.

A wish for more flea markets or funfairs

For Florian and Katharina Möller, who were with their children at the fair, those options came up a little bit short; the two outdoor pools can only be used in summer. Because of that, the couple, who lives in Mehlem, take their children swimming to the indoor pool in Wachtberg. They only go to the park if the children are with friends, they said. Then they usually go to the playground. On the park lawn and the adjacent parking lot at Rigal’schen Wiese, they think more could be organized, for example more flea markets and funfairs. But altogether, they find there are enough opportunities for families in Bad Godesberg. "I think the offer is more than adequate," says Florian Möller.

At Daniela Mager’s flea market stand, there was a pause to think about what else could be needed in the district. The daughter mentioned a trampoline hall. But not just a bouncy castle in the park, added the mother. It’s not suitable for events anyway, because you always have to expect rain. And concerts would quickly get rained out. She used to go to the park with her daughter to play badminton. Mäger says she could imagine holding sporting events for schoolchildren at the park in summer. And picnics? "There is not enough shade here." The flea market at the park attracted many visitors parallel to the fair taking place in the parking lot.

Bad Godesberg City Marketing was the organizer of the event and they were certainly satisfied. Deputy chairman Rüdiger Brauer was "overwhelmed by the crowd". But even when there are big crowds at the flea market, it doesn’t necessarily mean the carnival is well attended. A couple people running stalls at the carnival, said business could be better. “Maybe the weather got too nice too fast.”

The fair runs until Sunday, April 15.
